Friends: Tenley Tych

Name:- Tenley Tych (Ten or Tych).

Height:- Under 5 foot, but she won’t let anyone measure her.

Favourite Colour:- Blue.

Favourite Author:- Sun Zu.

Favourite TV Show:-  My Little Pony… except she doesn’t understand how the heroes, like Luna and Discord, always end up getting duped by those six villains.

Favourite Pet:- Jennifer.

Biography:- Tenley knows nothing about her father, and not really a great deal about her mother despite the fact that they lived alone together all her life.  Her mother was very militant, likely a former of a military or mercenary organization judging by her tattoos, and would force her daughter to do chores every day and to train and hone her fighting skills.  Although they were never close, Tenley tried her best to please her and hoped to one day earn her mother’s love.

Although her life was highly regimented, Tenley was exposed to many influences from the outside through books and television and the internet.  Because of this, she started to realise that her upbringing was not normal and to long for a happier life… but it was not to be.

Most of the time, Ten seems very serious, although she does show some dry wit on occasion, and as a child she is quick to act on her emotions without thinking about the consequences.  This, combined with the power she receives, can potentially make her very dangerous unless someone can get to the lost girl underneath.

Friends: Kaya Cade

Name:- Kaya Cade (or just Kay or Kaya or Cade).

Height:- 5ft 6inches

Favourite Colour:- Purple

Favourite Author:- Er… who wrote the thing about some boys getting lost on an island and they start a tribe and devolve into savages?  I think it was called Peter Pan.

Favourite TV Show:- Bargain Hunt.  Only the classic Dickinson era though.

Favourite Pet:- Jennifer.

Biography:- Kaya met Jennifer in school, standing up for the blonde when she was being bullied.  The two became best friends and as children they did almost everything together.

But as they entered their teens, things changed, especially after Jen lost her parents and became increasingly withdrawn.  In truth, Kay was always a little jealous of how close Jen was to her father, as well as her grades.  Kaya’s thought the skill she had was music and so joined a group of girls she thought were like minded.  However they encouraged her to pick on and bully her former friend.

After school, Kay continued trying to make it as a musician, forming a band called The Killer Aqua Bunnies.  But she has a hard time making a living that way.  The jobs she takes on to pay the bills tend not to last very long as she will usually get in trouble for fighting, and very occasionally has been caught stealing.  She is well known to Irongate’s police.  Having always had a rocky relationship with her father, she refuses to go home and keeps trying to make it on her own.

Now as an adult, she feels guilty about having hurt and betrayed her friend in the past.  Most the fights she gets into usually involve her trying to stand up for or protect someone.

Although The Killer Aqua Bunnies are primarily a punk rock band, her musical and other tastes are actually quite eclectic.  She has a rather low attention span, short temper, and is often quite silly.

Fairy Circles & Being A Fun-Gi

This is a fairy ring, or circle.  There are several near where I live. There is all kinds of folklore regarding them from around the world.  In Germany they are called Witches Circles and it was thought to make the places where witches danced on Walpurgisnacht (Walpurgis Night).  The dutch believed they showed the places where the devil had set his milk churn, while to other europeans they were places where elves and fairies danced.  Entering a fairy circle would allow you to see the fairies… but if you did, there was a high chance of being enthralled by their illusions.  Fairies really love to dance, but really hate party crashers.  Really violently hate.  Most folklore paints them as dangerous places you really best stay out of.  The fairies will either make you go mad, trap you inside the circle, or make you dance to death.

We now know that mushrooms are not all separate individual organisms.  When a spore lands on the ground, it will spread out beneath it and wait until conditions are just right before the shrooms all pop up at points equidistant from the entire organism’s centre.

I hope I haven’t destroyed all the romance for people, but really fungi are just as much fun as creepy thumb-sized folk.  They have the word fun in their name, for one thing.  Also, the world’s largest living organism is thought to be a fungus.  In the Malheur National Forest in Oregon is a honey fungus (Armillaria ostoyae) that covers an area of 3.4 square miles and may have a mass of 605 tons.

About Me

Name:- Jennifer Willow Airhart (She doesn’t like her middle name.  Usually she is just referred to as Jen, or Jenny, or sometimes Jen Air, or Airhead).

Height:- 5ft 4inches

Favourite Colour:- Sky Blue

Favourite Author:- Carl Sagan

Favourite TV Show:- Doesn’t really watch a lot.

Favourite Pet:- NAO

Biography:-  Jen’s mother was an archaelogist and lecturer at Irongate University as she was growing up.  Her father was a polymath, but his main work was as a geneticist for Stag Corp.  Always a little introverted and daydreamy, Jen had few very close friends growing up.  As a child, there was only other girl she played with regularly - Kaya Cade.

But at age twelve, both of Jen’s parents were asked by Stag Corp’s parent company to go on an expedition to Antarctica.  Jen never has been able to learn very many of details, but something went wrong and the expedition went missing and was never found.  Jen was taken in by her Uncle, for a short time.  Always busy with his work as a TV producer, he was never around very much, and so mostly she was taken care of by her father’s old assistant, Doctor Jana Sarkis.

Meanwhile, at school Jen became even more withdrawn, and her best friend had fallen in with a gang of other girls to whom Jen became the subject of a lot of bullying.  And so Jen and Kaya’s friendship ended, leaving Jen on her own.

Her uncle bought a lighthouse, in truth an old monument built at the same time as the university, and gave it to Jen to live in.  With the money left by her parents she trades online, and currently she spends almost all her time at the lighthouse conducting a variety of experiments.

Although very intelligent, Jen is nervous and shy around people and struggles to understand them, but in matters of science and technology she can usually speak quite confidently. She isn’t physically very strong, and has almost no actual combat skills.  Despite this, she can be very brave and will almost always try to defend herself or people around her if threatened.

Jen Air: The Little Queen

Tuesday, 7 July 2015

Hello.

Hello.

My name is Jen.  Jennifer Willow Airhart.  The friend I had when I was even more little than I am now called me Jen Air.

I live in a lighthouse on top of a hill.  The story of why there is a lighthouse on top of a hill located miles inland is a long one that I feel would be too much of a diversion right now.  It belongs to my aunt and uncle, who took care of me after my parents left.

Because of them, I don’t really have to worry about money very much, so I’m free to stay at home and pursue my own interests.  I designed and built my own computer to meet my personal needs.  I tried to make him a body once, but then he made a hole in the wall and scared off some of the mice, which didn’t make the owl or the bats very happy, so I had to turn him off.  I’m still working on it.  I also have my own observatory, and grow things in my cave.  Not those sorts of things… I mean experiments.
But the doctor who visits me sometimes says I’d be happier if I was more social.  I wasn’t aware I was unhappy, but she insists I must be since I’m alone all the time, apart from the owl, mice and bats.  So I suppose I just hadn’t noticed since I’m always busy.  Apparently, it is normal for a young woman to want to meet people and have relationships.  I did point out that I wasn’t normal, and that I have been to town and met people before and didn’t really like it very much.  She said I just had to meet the right people who shared my interests.  I asked where I could meet people who were interested in low-temperature quasi-zero-dimensional mesoscopic electron systems… and then she didn’t say anything.

But I agreed to try being more social.  So this is me trying.
